The Junior Rising Star Award celebrates emerging scientific talent and the next generation of researchers advancing ageing, geroscience, and precision geromedicine.
Open to actively enrolled PhD candidates who have completed their doctoral candidacy or equivalent confirmation requirements, the competition provides an opportunity to communicate the significance and potential impact of their thesis research to an international scientific audience.
The Scientific Committee will select 10 finalists to present their thesis projects in concise, engaging three-minute presentations at the 2027 Unlock Healthy Longevity Conference. Three winners will be recognised: first, second and third place.
How it works
The Scientific Committee reviews submitted abstracts and selects 10 finalists. Selected candidates will be notified of their acceptance.

Research topics
We welcome PhD thesis projects spanning biological, clinical, technological and translational research in ageing, geroscience and precision geromedicine.

Animal and human research
Repurposed drugs and nutraceuticals
Digital biomarkers, AI and longevity
Relevant interdisciplinary research contributing to the understanding of ageing and healthy longevity is also welcome.
Who can apply?
Currently and actively enrolled PhD candidates who have successfully completed their doctoral candidacy or confirmation requirements, and whose thesis research is relevant to ageing, geroscience, precision geromedicine, or related disciplines.
Currently and actively enrolled in a PhD programme at the time of abstract submission.
Successfully completed doctoral candidacy or an equivalent confirmation process.
Thesis research relevant to ageing, geroscience, precision geromedicine or related disciplines.
Willing to give a three-minute thesis presentation at the conference if selected as a finalist.
Not eligible
Undergraduate and Master’s students, and individuals who have not yet commenced a PhD programme.
PhD students who have not achieved doctoral candidacy or completed an equivalent confirmation process.
Individuals who have graduated from their PhD programme or are not currently enrolled in a PhD programme.
Applicants must have progressed beyond the initial pre-candidacy stage of their PhD. The timing of doctoral candidacy or confirmation varies by institution.
Competition at a glance

Abstract submission guidelines
Eligibility at submission: Applicants must be actively enrolled in a PhD programme and have successfully completed their doctoral candidacy or equivalent confirmation requirements at the time of abstract submission.

Submit your PhD thesis research abstract through the official online submission portal.
Late submissions will not be accepted.
Conference registration and payment
Submitting an abstract for the Junior Rising Star Award does not incur an additional competition entry fee.
Selected finalists must complete their conference registration and pay the applicable conference registration fee by 22 January 2027 to confirm their participation.
Failure to complete registration by the deadline may result in the withdrawal of their presentation opportunity.

Abstracts must be submitted through the official online submission system. Email submissions will not be considered.
PhD thesis abstracts
Submit an abstract presenting your PhD thesis research, not a full thesis document. Describe the research context, scientific approach, findings or progress where applicable, and the project’s potential contribution to the field. The thesis project does not need to be complete.
Follow the abstract preparation guidelines below. Do not submit the same abstract twice; duplicate submissions will be discarded.

Maximum 300 words
References, tables and figures must not be included in the abstract. Follow the structure for your selected abstract type below.
Abstract title
Provide a clear and concise title reflecting the content of the work.
Authors and affiliations
List the full names of all authors and underline the presenting author’s name. Provide the presenting author’s email address. For every author, include department, institution or hospital, city, state (where relevant) and country.

Select Research/Medical Abstracts or Case Reports/Clinical Cases and follow the corresponding structure below. These are preparation categories, not separate award competitions. Every submission must relate to the applicant’s PhD thesis research and meet the existing candidacy requirements.

Abbreviations
Use only standard abbreviations. For special or unusual abbreviations, write the full term followed by the abbreviation in parentheses when first mentioned.
Scientific integrity
Presentations must be balanced and must not contain commercial promotional content.
Patient confidentiality
Submissions must not include patient names, hospital identification numbers or other patient-identifying information.
Submission confirmation
You should receive a confirmation email within 24 working hours of submitting your abstract. If you do not receive confirmation within that period, contact us at the email address below.
